Rowen Sits Up!!

We have had quite and adventure for the last 24 hours. Last night when I picked Rowen up from day care he seemed not quite himself. When we got home he had 2 episodes of diarrhea and we learned he had had several bouts during the day at daycare. Around 1:30 am Rowen woke up screaming/crying and kept crying until around 6am. He would cry, moan and then fall alseep for 20 minutes. Then wake up crying and start all over again. He did this all night. Around 6am he passed out in the rocking chair in Daddie's arms. All toll, he had about 12 episodes of diarrhea over 24 hours. We went to the doctor this morning and his temperature was 102 and he was lethargic (not able to stay awake). He continued to have diarrhea - he had 4 diapers while we were there in the first 2 hours.

When the first episode of diarrhea occurred in the office- I ran into the hallyway calling- Dr. Seto- Dr. Seto come quick. The doctor came to the room quickly and I said- Rowen just had diarrhea, do you want to see it? Dr. Seto very kindly turned to me and said, "No thank you- I'm good. You can just put in there in the red biohazard garbage can."

They planned to admit Rowen to the hospital for IV fluids and some additional testing. In the meantime they gave him Tylenol to bring down the fever and we started giving him water in his bottle. We waited for 3.5 hrs in the doctors office as they prepared Rowen for admission. Over those 3.5 hours Rowen started to perk up. He was looking around and even smiled and the woman resident doctor who came to discuss admitting him. Such a flirt.

After almost 4 hours everyone decided it would be best if we could keep him out of the hospital. With him looking better we took our marching orders to CVS and bought all the pedilyte they had in stock and took Rowen home.

At this point- having been up essentially for over 14 hours with a sick kid Bryan and I were like Dead Couple Walking- we assumed Rowen must also be tired. We put him in his crib and started to putter around in plans for a nap.

I heard a lot of noise from Rowen's room and peaked around the corner. Only to see- to my amazement the top of my son's head sticking up in the crib. Rowen had SAT HIMSELF UP!!! I called Bryan - "you are not going to believe this! Rowen just sat himself up!"

Another 5 hours and 10 oz of pedilyte he has completely mastered the skill. Take a look.

Back to the doctor in the morning to make sure all is well.

Love to all- Bryan, Myla and Rowen

Resiliency at its finest! And that you were alert enough to catch it on video camera and upload it after all that caretaking and sleep deprivation - bravo!
