Happy Birthday Mr. Rowen Rahn Craig. You are 4 months old today. I hope you got the telegram.

Now that you are 4 months old, you no longer need to eat every 3 hours during the night (stop)

Instead you will fill your belly at 6:30 pm and retire to bed at 7 pm (stop)

Where after you will proceed to sleep for a minimum of 5, but preferably 7 hours (stop)

Then you may rise for a quick bite to eat and again retire for another 5 if necessary but 7 is preferable hours (stop).

Short but sweet

Here is a video update Bryan took today. As you can see, Rowen is talking up a storm these days. He has also almost mastered rolling over. He has successfully rolled over twice from his back to his belly. But not reliably. He also did roll once from his belly to his back. We are stilling waiting for this to be a reliable event.

We have lost some ground in terms of sleeping over the last week. But, we are all hanging in there. Although it was been hard with me being on hospital service for the past week and taking call every other night. Special thanks to Mom and Amie for some emotional augmentation today.

Rowen will be 4 months this week!! Hard to believe- seems so short and so long at the same time. Our next Dr. Appt is 3/30 am. The boys will be flying solo this weekend as I head to San Fran for a quick business trip. It will be hard to be away from Rowen for 3 days. This will be the longest we have ever been apart. However, I just learned yesterday that his memory is only 7 seconds long. So I am hoping he will promptly forget that I was there and when I return promptly forget that I was gone....

Rowen is finding his voice and it is LOUD

Over the last 2 weeks Rowen has had a lot of firsts. He has slept all night in his crib. He did not sleep "thru the night"; but, he did sleep all night in his crib. He continues to wake up once at 12 to 1 am for feeding and then remain somewhat restless from 3 am to 6 am. However, he is no longer feeding every three hours during the night. So this is a major accomplishment. Bryan and I take turns attending to Rowen in "shifts". Each one of us takes the first shift (8 pm to 1 am) or the second shift (1am to 6 am). Bryan seems to enjoy this extra time in the middle of the night now that he has his Kindle. The main issue seems to be pacifer retainment. Rowen will wake up and realize that he has lost his pacifer and "request" for this to be placed in his mouth.

Rowen has also found his hands and his mouth. He likes his hands to be touching- which often results in a sort of "hush, I am praying" pose.

He also likes to take all objects for a first pass in his mouth. He does not seem very discriminating in regard to taste. He seems equally satisfied with plastic, fabric, and dog hair.

He has also begun really expressing himself with a new "voice". This is essentially a shrieking, loud, unrestrained scream. He has also begun to roll on his side. He has not rolled over. But does seem to make it to his side and back. We have not yet caught this on video but will keep you posted. However, we have caught his overwhelming cuteness on video.

Fun with Family

We had a busy February with visits from Grandma Benz, followed by Grandma & Grandpa Craig and Auntie Jr and Nini. Grandma and Grandpa Craig met Rowen for the first time and it was love at first sight. They arrived on a Friday night and played with Rowen for the weekend. Rowen had a great time playing with Grandma Craig. He seemed a little weary of Grandpa Craig, but by the end he seemed to be warming up. I think the truth is-- simply- he is a ladies man :)

Jordana and Whitney followed up with a visit the along with Jacob and John. It was fun to meet Jacob and see John again. Jacob and Whit took Titan for a hike on Friday, which was great- because he has been so deprived. Titan then followed Jacob around loyally for the weekend. It appeared he was hoping to be taken to the land of no more crying small humans- a place he once knew well...

Jordana got to spend some QT with Rowen on "the Lawn". She was finally able to take her turn with the infamous "carrier". She appeared to have the Goldman Girl Touch and Rowen slept for the whole hour they cruised the Lawn. Again on Sunday JR and Rowen were able to spend some time playing before heading back to DC. It was great to learn from the official pediatrician about playtime with Rowen.

We look foward to seeing everyone again soon!

The Hearing Test

Please forgive me. I have been neglectful in my blogging. Things here have been very busy. I returned to work full time and we had visitors for the last three weekends. I have lots of pictures to post, but for now I will try to tide you over with a 3-month day pictures and a video. As you can see- Rowen has found his hands. He loves to put then in his mouth and hold on to them. Thus, he often appears to be praying.
